Context

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system’s designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. Within UNEP’s Industry and Economy Division (IED), the Resources and Markets Branch (RMB) supports public policies and private-sector initiatives that advance efficient, clean and safe industrial production methods while creating the enabling conditions for sustainable consumption within value chains in high-impact sectors. The RMB hosts the Secretariat of the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP), an initiative led by UNEP, UNIDO, the World Bank, the OECD and GGGI that aims at facilitating the sharing, promotion and application of green economy best practices and impactful solutions, capitalizing on the knowledge and experience generated across the globe by those who are leading the transition through innovative policy instruments, business models and technologies, financing mechanisms and investments, as well as through international cooperation and technical assistance.
GGKP’s digital platforms, while being simplified to better focus on strategic priorities and high-impact sectors, require editorial enhancement to ensure the quality, consistency and accuracy of contents. . More specifically, editorial support is needed to update and refine the narratives being used to introduce the platforms’ users to a selection of cross-cutting themes and sectors.

Key Responsibilities

We are looking for 1 Online Volunteer with strong editorial and writing experience. The assignment will include the following responsibilities:

• Conduct editorial review of a selection of existing pages focused on cross-cutting themes and high-impact sectors on the three GGKP platforms.
• Review, update and streamline introductory narratives on those pages, in the form of a short, clear and appealing synthesis of the “state of play” as the theme or sector relates to green and circular economy, substantiated with key facts and figures backed-up by highly reliable and recent sources, ensuring alignment with UNEP’s key knowledge products and messages, as well as editorial consistency.
• Collaborate with GGKP team members to validate content accuracy and strategic alignment.

The average estimated workload is expected to include editing and developing content for approximately 10-15 sectoral pages over the course of the assignment duration, with emphasis on high-impact sectors and cross-cutting themes.

The Online Volunteer will have the opportunity to contribute to strategic communication within the United Nations system and gain experience in editorial content development for international organizations.

Required Skills and Experience

Candidates should have strong research and writing skills with experience in content development and editorial review. Experience with organizational communications, policy writing, or international development content would be considered an asset.
